The CROWN!!!!!!

When they called out “Mrs El Paso is first runner-up and …” I turned a confused and shocked face to the announcer. What did he mean? Me? Mrs San Antonio, pageant novice Kellie Colleen Consevage now Mrs TEXAS? I saw Mrs El Paso step back as she mouthed, “it’s you,” and nodded with a smile.

HUH? My vision narrowed to a pinpoint. Knees weakened, gasping for air, I felt Nipal (Mrs Texas 1991) plant a crown on my head. How she reached it, I can’t tell you – felt like I was floating to the heavens.
I remember hearing a vague whisper of:
MRS SAN ANTONIO IS THE NEW MRS TEXAS!

I couldn’t wait to call my grandmother in Michigan and tell her!

Crown on head, sash on torso, roses in my arm, I walked the runway with tears glistening my big ole Texas smile. My two year old son Brandon met me at the bottom of the T and walked me back up to my husband and infant son Travis. My family. My husband refers to himself as Mr Texas, groan.

I’ll be blogging different experiences from my reign, as well as catching ya’ll up on life after the crown. Watch for the blog entries and pictures – infant son Travis is over six feet tall now and I wrote a novel. A few additions and changes to the family – I finally got my girl – two girls in fact. Come back soon and often. In the mean time, check out my writing blog:
